Justin found this gem outside of Boston.
It was built in the 1940's and needed a
lot of work. Maya couldn't wait to get
her hands on this project ! It has so much
charm. Have a look below to see what
Maya has done to the main areas of the
house. She has really put her all her years
of schooling and her work experience to
good use. Justin is happy that the interior
design fees have been on the house
(so to speak).

We wanted an English Cottage-style kitchen for our home, so we focused on adding charm and coziness. We used maple cabinets with a stained and distressed heirloom finish to give them the patina of time. Adding furniture toe board to the sink cabinet gave it a furniture look.

The burgundy and green of the hand painted tile backsplash softened the natural stone-like tile. Like homes in the English countryside, we used rope moulding, a carved wooden hood, rustic wood floor, and bead board on the back of the island. The field view is a focal point of the kitchen. The small window above the sink was visually enlarged by angling leaded glass cabinets on both sides to open up this area.

The goal for the master suite was to achieve a feeling of serenity while maximizing views through the oaks.
Maya achieved it with a mix of Asian and Arts and Crafts inspired furniture balanced by crisp contemporary artwork and fabrics. Reedlike blinds and pale green oak leaf toned walls reinforce the connection to nature. Simple yet elegant bed linens emphasize the richness of the cherry sleigh bed. Accessories potted orchids and antique baskets have been kept to a minimum to reinforce the understated aesthetic.

When you have a large space like the family room dominated by a soaring stone fireplace the furnishings have to be substantial, according to Maya. Bold plaid sofas, colorful planters, and dramatic artwork rise to the occasion.
